Prohibit dog racing in the USA
Please sign our petition to the President of the United States
The time has come to make dog racing illegal in the United States. Please ask President Joseph R. Biden to support the US Greyhound Protection Act.
Greyhounds suffer terribly at commercial racetracks. They are kept confined for up to 23 hours a day in small, stacked cages, inside dark and lonely warehouses. When let out to race several times a month, they face the risk of serious injury and death. Greyhounds break their legs and backs, suffer crushed skulls, spinal cord paralysis and seizures. Some dogs are even electrocuted at the track.
Sponsored in chief by Representatives Salud Carbajal, Zach Nunn, Tony Cárdenas, Nancy Mace, Lori Chavez-DeRemer, and Don Davis, the Greyhound Protection Act will make it a federal crime to engage in commercial greyhound racing. Triggered by GREY2K USA’s successful investigation of live lure training by greyhound breeders in three states, this legislation could not be more timely.
In live lure training, small animals are used to excite and enhance a chase instinct in young dogs. Typically, screaming animals are dangled before greyhounds, dragged in front of them on ropes, or simply set loose to be attacked. They suffer cruel and miserable deaths.
Greyhound racing is now illegal in 43 US states and revenues have plummeted by more than 82% since 2001. Meanwhile, states like West Virginia subsidize greyhound breeders to the tune of $17 million a year.
Let President Biden know that racing is cruel to dogs and rabbits, unfair to the taxpayers underwriting it, and that it completely violates the values of American citizens.
